Security Guard Firearms Permit
Those who wish to become an armed security officer must take the firearms class. The pre-requisite for taking this class is that you have a guard card or you have proof of having taken the guard card class. This initial class is a two day class. Please bring a photo ID. Also, you will need to show us a Certified copy of a Birth Certificate, Military I.D., DD-214, Passport or Certificate of Naturalization. A pad of paper and something to write with may be helpful. The first day of class will be lecture, discussion and a written test. You must pass a written multiple choice test with 85% correct, in English, without the assistance of a translator before advancing to the range on the 2nd day of class. You will need to provide and shoot a minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition and you must wear clothing and a belt which will allow you to holster a firearm on the 2nd day of class. You will need a minimum of two magazines for a semi-automatic handgun and at least two speed-loaders should you choose to shoot a revolver. Five shot revolvers are less than optimal for qualification. Loaner firearms may be available upon request. Please contact us with any questions you may have regarding this class. The 2nd day of class will generally be finished around 1pm on the 2nd day.
Once you complete class you will have additional fees in order to apply for the firearms permit. The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services application fee is $80 and the livescan fee including the firearms eligibility fee is $89 plus a $10-$25 fee for the livescan facility.
