History

Since Norvan Powers opened Powers Security Training School over 50 years ago, this family business has been dedicated to providing safety oriented training to Kern County. Norvan’s son Craig, and his wife Becky, took over the business when Norvan retired. They have been operating Powers Firearms Training with the same integrity as it started while staying current with this evolving specialty.

Craig Powers

Craig started shooting at age 7 when his dad took him out to shoot a war surplus 1911 in 45 acp.  At age 13 he began assisting his father on the range and teaching handgun technique.  He learned firearms repair and customization while working in a gun store in college, and 1983 began teaching concealed weapons permit classes for Powers Firearms Training School.  He continued his involvement within the family business after going to work for the Kern County Probation Department in 1986.  He retired from the Probation Department and is happy to be devoted full time as an owner/operator/instructor for Powers Firearms training.

Craig has also undergone hundreds of hours of training as a Probation Officer and takes the perspective that firearms training is evolution.

Rebecca Powers

Rebecca Powers has been involved in the family businesses for over 20 years and in 2002 began working towards obtaining her National Rifle Association instructor certifications. She has since worked full time as a firearms instructor specializing in small group and individual instruction for both handgun and concealed weapons courses. Her passion is working with women to become comfortable and proficient in the safe use of firearms.
